Backstory

The Story of Rook the Unbroken

Rook earned “the Unbroken” at Ironhold’s western ram-gate, where three siege engines struck the same section of wall for six hours. The gate survived. Most of the masonry did not. Rook remained in the breach after the last supporting arch collapsed, using a slab of fallen plating as a shield and the broken gate-chain as a weapon.

He was already enormous before the siege. Afterward, the armourers built around what remained of his old harness instead of replacing it, layer over layer, until his silhouette became almost architectural. Rook is slow because nothing about him is designed for pursuit. He is a Guardian in the oldest Ironhold sense: choose the place that must not be crossed and become part of it.

His Heavy Blow is not a berserker’s swing. Rook waits until an opponent commits, then drives all that mass through one precise impact. The target may remain standing, but balance, stance and supporting technique usually do not.

Rook entered the Convergence only after a Thread opened inside a fortress courtyard he had guarded for twenty years. He did not trust a doorway that arrived without asking. He still doesn’t.
