Backstory

The Story of Railgun Rook

Railgun Rook does not aim for armour.

He aims for advantage.

Neon Kairo security forces originally issued Rook a magnetic cannon designed to disable reinforced vehicles without explosive rounds. During street fighting, he discovered that the weapon was more useful against the machinery supporting an opponent’s enhancements: stabilisers, amplifiers, shield emitters, powered joints, even the structural points that let a supernatural effect translate into physical control.

Piercing Shot became a philosophy rather than a projectile. Rook identifies the piece of an enemy’s positive bonus that actually matters and removes part of it.

He is a Warrior because he prefers direct confrontation, but his Mind is nearly as strong as his Power. The shot only works if he understands why the advantage exists.

Rook’s callsign came from an old board game played in Neon Kairo barracks. The rook moves simply, people told him. He replied that simple lines are useful when the weapon can fire through three walls.

Since entering the Convergence, he has encountered bonuses generated by spirits, sunlight, ancient oaths and living forests. Rook has not become less confident.

He has simply started carrying more kinds of ammunition.
