Backstory

The Story of Gravity Priest

Gravity Priest considers speed a misunderstanding.

The Celestium order they belong to teaches that movement only has meaning relative to the field defining it. A runner is fast because the world agrees on distance, time and weight.

Change the agreement and the boast becomes less impressive.

Gravity Well deepens local gravitational conditions until positive Speed bonuses on both sides vanish. Base ability remains, but artificial acceleration, magical haste and temporary enhancements lose their advantage.

The Priest’s Beast classification comes from adaptation to extreme gravity rituals. Their body is dense, broad and reinforced with natural crystalline growth along the spine. Ordinary movement looks slow. Thought does not.

The order uses such priests to stabilise damaged orbital habitats and prevent runaway rotational systems.

One ritual reportedly saved a city by making a collapsing station “fall sideways” for six minutes.

The Convergence raises theological problems. Threads appear to ignore normal distance entirely.

Gravity Priest has begun referring to them as “heresy with useful properties.”

The senior order has not decided whether this is criticism.
