The Story of Kara Warbanner
Kara’s banner was made from defeat.
During the Collapse of Furnace Cohort Twelve, the soldiers trapped in Ironhold’s lower works melted their oath-rings together so there would be one object to return home if none of them did. Kara was the runner chosen to carry it. She reached the upper gate with the metal still hot enough to burn through the wrapping.
Only four members of the cohort survived. Instead of hanging the fused rings in a memorial hall, Kara had them beaten into the spine of a battle-standard. Her argument was simple: an oath that only remembers the dead is less useful than one that keeps the living moving.
Kara fights in sequence rather than isolation. She watches what the previous Might Champion established and plants the banner where that effort can be continued. Her ability is not supernatural reinforcement so much as organised courage made visible.
Some Ironhold officers dislike how much authority soldiers give the banner. Kara does not care. She has seen what happens when people believe they are the last person still holding a line, and she has built her life around proving that they usually aren’t.
