Backstory

The Story of Nyx Circuitblade

Nyx Circuitblade used to run illegal courier races through Neon Kairo’s maintenance arteries, where routes are too narrow for drones and too dangerous for anyone with a sensible insurance policy.

Her first neural overclock was a stolen medical processor. Her second was built by a street surgeon who warned that using it at full load would cause memory loss. Nyx asked how much faster it would make her.

That answer was enough.

The circuitblade came later: a monofilament weapon synchronised to her accelerated perception. During Overclock, Nyx experiences the world in stretched fragments—raindrops hanging in the air, muzzle flashes opening like flowers, opponents finishing thoughts after she has already moved.

The cost is severe. The processor floods her nervous system and can leave parts of recent memory unrecoverable. In game terms, she gains extraordinary Speed but cannot simply be brought back from discard as though nothing happened.

Nyx keeps a wall of handwritten notes in her apartment because handwriting cannot be corrupted by a failed implant. Some are mundane reminders. Others are messages from versions of herself she no longer remembers being.

One note appeared after her first trip through a Thread: “Do not trust the city with two moons.” Neon Kairo has one.
