The Story of Aegis Drone Prime

Aegis Drone Prime began as six separate defence drones guarding a Neon Kairo children’s hospital.

During the Blackout Cascade, the hospital lost its central controller while autonomous security units elsewhere in the district began attacking anything they could not authenticate. The six drones linked themselves into an improvised mesh, shared damaged processors and continued shielding evacuation corridors for eleven hours.

By the end, there was no meaningful way to say where one drone ended and another began.

Engineers rebuilt the surviving network into Aegis Drone Prime. Its “body” is only the anchor unit; the real intelligence lives across a rotating shield constellation. The first hostile modifier that strikes the formation is dispersed through the grid, each drone taking a fraction before the system rebalances.

Technicians classify Aegis as Mystic because its emergent behaviour no longer matches any code branch they can find. The drones sometimes reposition before sensors detect danger. They also refuse all attempts to separate them for study.

Aegis entered the Convergence escorting medical teams, not warriors. It still prioritises evacuation routes over winning positions. Arena organisers find that inconvenient.

The hospital children find it perfectly normal.
