Backstory

The Story of Mira Gearwright

Mira Gearwright’s workshop has a rule painted over the main bench: NOTHING IS SCRAP UNTIL MIRA SAYS SO.

Brass Meridian factory crews know the rule because Mira once rebuilt a collapsed loading walker from parts taken out of three different machines while the factory roof was still falling.

She was trained as a precision engineer, but war made her practical. Mira learned that battlefield repair is not restoration. You do not return a machine to what it was. You find the one useful thing it can still become.

That philosophy explains Repair. After a Tech ally is lost, Mira can recover the last viable system, rebuild it and return it to the draw pile later. Nothing comes back untouched, but useful machinery gets another job.

Her Warrior classification surprises people who expect a mechanic to stay behind cover. Mira fights with a torque-hammer originally designed for rail bolts and wears an apron reinforced with ceramic plates because she refuses to own separate “combat clothes.”

She joined the Convergence for salvage rights and stayed because alien engineering offended her professionally. Every new Shard contains machines built according to assumptions Brass Meridian never made.

Mira has already repaired two of them. She calls this “winning the argument.”
