The Story of Lumen Scout

Lumen Scout maps danger that has not reached the team yet.

Neon Kairo’s upper maintenance layer is a hidden city of coolant ducts, drone lanes, antenna forests and unfinished architecture. Lumen learned to cross it at full speed while carrying survey gear, because stopping on an exposed service spine was often more dangerous than not knowing what came next.

The sensor cloak earned its name by projecting thin planes of light across surfaces, revealing heat changes, structural stress and concealed mechanisms. In combat, Lumen uses the same system after a duel to scan the next queued Arena hazard.

The Scout’s greatest skill is not winning the current fight. It is making the next one less surprising.

That attitude made Lumen unpopular in solo leagues and invaluable in team operations.

During the Convergence, city officials assigned Lumen to map newly appearing Threads. The first survey report included a warning that one Thread was “leaning toward somewhere dangerous.” Administrators rejected the phrase as unscientific.

Two days later, the Thread opened into an active volcanic chamber.

The phrase is now an approved technical category.
