The Story of Fen Candlewitch

Fen Candlewitch learned magic in a Nocturne marsh where candles are made from memory wax.

Each flame consumes a thought instead of ordinary fuel. Most witches use the candles for mourning: a painful memory can be burned deliberately, leaving the facts intact but softening the emotional edge.

Fen discovered a harsher use.

During a duel with a brilliant occultist, she lit a candle from the opponent’s spoken certainty. The flame burned one conclusion out of his mind. He remembered every spell and every fact, but for several seconds could not remember why he believed his plan would work.

That became Hex Candle. Fen’s curse only bites when the opponent’s Mind exceeds her own, because superior certainty provides the fuel.

She is a Warrior by temperament, fighting with a hooked marsh blade in one hand and candle-lanterns in the other. Her magic is practical, intimate and unsettling rather than grand.

Fen crossed into the Convergence after a candle lit itself beside a Thread and burned with a memory that belonged to nobody present.

The image in the flame showed a city under a black sun.

She has been looking for it ever since.
