Backstory

The Story of Pale Huntsman

The Pale Huntsman chooses prey before the season begins.

Once selected, the target category becomes study rather than obsession. Machine year: dismantled servos, power cores and actuator diagrams cover the workshop. Mystic year: curse patterns, ritual timing and spirit behaviour replace them.

The Huntsman does not gain general advantage. Hunter Mark applies only against the chosen type because preparation that broad would become superficial.

Nocturne nobles used to hire the Huntsman for monster control until one employer requested “all Mystics” in a rival district and discovered the contract had ethical conditions hidden in the small print.

The Huntsman killed the employer instead.

Legendary status comes from patience more than body count. Some hunts last months. Several end without violence because the target stops being dangerous once understood.

The pale armour is coated in bone-ash to hide scent and reflect little moonlight. The bow folds into a walking staff when not in use.

The Convergence has created categories Nocturne taxonomy cannot handle.

The Huntsman’s latest field journal contains one new heading:

“Things that are both Machine and Mystic.”

Below it are twelve pages of irritated notes.
