The Story of Boulderhide Bear

Boulderhide Bear’s back is not armour someone fitted.

It is scar tissue.

Verdant Reach’s mineral springs contain dissolved crystal that accumulates around repeated wounds. After years of territorial fights, falling trees and one catastrophic landslide, Boulderhide’s shoulders became covered in layered stone growth.

Attempts to weaken its Power rarely work fully because the first part of any force is absorbed by old damage turned protective. Thick Hide reduces negative Power modifiers for exactly that reason.

The Bear is a Specialist in the ecological sense. It clears blocked river channels by moving fallen trunks and opens mineral ground smaller animals cannot reach. Whole ecosystems follow the disturbances it leaves behind.

It is slow to anger and surprisingly tolerant of people who respect distance. A research camp once survived a flood because Boulderhide spent the night standing in a river breach and redirecting water around them.

Verdant shamans did not train it for Arena combat. They merely noticed the Bear walked toward Convergence disturbances as if they smelled wrong.

Boulderhide’s first recorded duel ended when it ignored three weakening effects, pushed a stone pillar aside and went back to eating roots.
