The Story of Sunscale Raptor
Sunscale Raptor hunts as the second body in a pack.
That sounds less impressive than it is.
Primeval pack predators often have one animal that begins the chase and another that turns the prey’s escape into the real attack. Sunscale specialised in that second role, reading the first hunter’s movement and arriving where panic would send the target next.
Its bright spine feathers store heat from open savannah and flare orange during pursuit, giving the creature its name.
Pack Rush reflects the same behaviour. If a Wild Champion was played previously, Sunscale enters an already established rhythm and gains Speed.
The Raptor’s Mind is low by human standards, but pack intelligence is distributed. Sunscale does not need to calculate every route if another hunter’s motion has already narrowed the possibilities.
Primeval handlers never domesticated the pack. They developed ritual signals that the animals occasionally choose to respect.
During a Convergence incursion, Sunscale followed a Wild Champion from another Shard through a Thread without hesitation.
The rest of the pack waited.
When Sunscale returned, they accepted the foreign Champion as if the chase had never been interrupted.
