The Story of Riverfang Otter
Riverfang Otter treats dangerous water as entertainment.
Verdant Reach’s flood rivers contain rotating currents strong enough to uproot trees. Riverfang learned to swim the seams between them, using opposing flows to accelerate with almost no wasted effort.
The animal became a local nuisance by stealing fishing markers and returning them kilometres upstream before anyone understood how.
Slipstream turns that playfulness into Arena advantage. In a tie, if Riverfang is faster, it finds the final current that breaks equality and gains the deciding score.
Mystic classification comes from an unusual relationship with river spirits. Small luminous shapes gather in the wake and occasionally change the water ahead, as if participating in the game.
Riverfang once rescued three children from a flood, delivered them safely to a bank and immediately stole one child’s boot.
The boot was recovered two weeks later on a shrine roof.
The Convergence introduced rivers with different gravity, chemistry and even direction.
Riverfang has responded by trying all of them.
Verdant researchers have given up attaching equipment because every sensor eventually returns wet, functioning and somewhere absurd.
